Kempower error codes

This page covers Kempower DC fast chargers: Power Unit and Satellites (S-Series), Station Charger (formerly C-Series), Movable Charger, Mega Satellite and legacy T-Series. Kempower publishes very few codes: most of the codes below were observed on charging stations supervised by Chargekeeper.

Where to read the code: in Chargekeeper, charging station list, connector details, Information
column (or the in-progress sessions list, Information column). It shows
"OCPP code - manufacturer code - information". See Manufacturer error codes.

How Kempower reports its errors

Kempower codes are upper-case words (for example PRIMARY_UNDERVOLTAGE, OUTPUT_OVERVOLTAGE). The charging station sends one or more of these words, separated by commas, in the manufacturer code field (vendorErrorCode), for example PRIMARY_UNDERVOLTAGE,DISABLED,MAIN_SWITCH_OFF. The information field often carries another list, for example PARTIALLY_OK,RT_CONNECTOR_PMC_ERROR.

  • SSC_ prefix: fault detected during the start-up system self-check (System Self-Check). It clears only after a system restart.

  • RT_ prefix: fault detected at run time, after the self-check.

The full code catalogue is in the MyKempower portal (and in ChargEye), available only after login. For each code it gives the description, the possible impact, the solution, the component concerned and a severity class: severity unknown (contact support if unsure), no action required (clears by itself), remote investigation required, onsite investigation or hardware replacement required. For a code not on this page, check MyKempower or ask your maintenance partner.

Documented MyKempower codes

Only these codes appear in Kempower's public documentation. For RT_PMC_ERROR and the SSC_ codes, Kempower publishes no description: the meaning is deduced from the code name.

Code Meaning What to do OCPP code
POWER MODULE FAULT Alert grouping one or more error codes reported by power module controllers (PMC) in the power cabinet; not an error code itself but the alert title shown in the 'Needs attention' pane Open the alert in MyKempower/ChargEye and read each underlying error code. Contact Kempower Technical Support or the maintenance partner if an onsite investigation is indicated. —
PRIMARY_UNDERVOLTAGE The supply voltage seen on the primary (grid input) side of a power module is below its acceptable range Check with the electricity distribution company that the supply voltage is sufficient. Have a qualified electrician check that the power module breaker is ON (never switch it on with the charger energized). Maintenance partner: inspect the rear-connector harness and pins, swap the module to another slot to see if the error follows it, replace the module if it does. OtherError
RT_PMC_ERROR Run-time error reported by a power module controller (generic; no description published) (to be confirmed) Read the code details in MyKempower/ChargEye. Contact Kempower Technical Support if unsure. —
SSC_PMC_UNTESTABLE_ON_SERIAL_SYSTEM During the start-up self-check a power module could not be tested in the serial (series-connected) cabinet configuration (to be confirmed) SSC_ codes clear only after a system restart. Read the code details in MyKempower/ChargEye; contact Kempower Technical Support if it persists. —
SSC_PMC_VOLTAGE_MISSING During the start-up self-check a power module reported a missing voltage (to be confirmed) SSC_ codes clear only after a system restart. Read the code details in MyKempower/ChargEye; contact Kempower Technical Support if it persists. —

Codes observed on our stations, not documented by Kempower

These codes were received from charging stations supervised by Chargekeeper but are not in the
manufacturer's public documentation. The label is the one sent by the charging station itself.

POWER_ON_SELF_TEST and INITIALIZING arrive with no OCPP error code (NoError).

Lights and display

When there is a problem, the charger screen shows a plain-language message, with a technical reason in small print such as FAILED_ChargerConnectorLockFault. The status light only exists on some models (Satellite V1, Control Unit, C-Series and S-Series posts); Satellite V2 and Liquid Cooled Satellite have none.

Signal Meaning What to do
FAILED_ChargerConnectorLockFault Session could not start because the charger's connector locking reported a fault; the display asks the driver to unplug and retry Driver: unplug the cable and plug it in again, then retry. If it repeats on the same connector, check the error codes in MyKempower/ChargEye and contact the maintenance partner / Kempower Technical Support.
LED red Charging point is in error; after an interrupted charging sequence the side of the post stays red until the connector is unplugged Unplug the connector. Read the message on the display and the error codes in MyKempower/ChargEye. Contact the maintenance partner if it persists.
LED green Charging point OK and ready to charge —
LED blue Charging in progress (on Satellite V1 the bar height shows the vehicle state of charge) —
