GARO error codes

Updated on 28 October 2026

This page covers GARO LS4 43kW and LS4 MINI 43kW chargers (AC charging pillars, up to 43 kW, fixed Type 2 cable), LS4, LS4 Compact, LS4 MINI, the GLB+ wallbox and the Entity Pro. It lists the charge controller's messages and how to read the lights.

Where to read the code: in Chargekeeper, charging station list, connector details,
Information column (or the list of sessions in progress, Information column). It shows
"OCPP code - manufacturer code - information". See Manufacturer error codes.

How GARO reports its errors

GARO chargers send no manufacturer code (vendorErrorCode). Like Mennekes, they use a Bender charge controller: the error arrives as text, in the information field, with a standard OCPP code. Example received: OCPP code OtherError, information "Performing periodical housekeeping reboot".

  • GARO publishes no numeric code list. What its manuals call "fault codes" are the messages of the controller's web interface (table below), with the OCPP code GARO maps each one to. This interface is read on site, with a laptop connected over micro-USB.
  • The Bender controller messages are detailed on the Mennekes error codes page: a text missing here may be listed there.
  • According to GARO, a firm red light always raises an alarm to the backend.

LS4 43kW, LS4 MINI 43kW, LS4, LS4 Compact, LS4 MINI and GLB+ — controller messages

Messages shown in the controller's web interface. The OCPP code column is the one GARO documents for each fault. The wording varies slightly from one manual to another. The GLB+ manual does not list the RCD, residual current and MCB rows.

Message Meaning What to do OCPP code
IDLE (available) - (A) Vehicle not connected Idle, no vehicle; firm green light, or blinking green (3 blinks) when a cable is in but no vehicle is detected — —

Actuator unlocked while charging The socket lock actuator opened during a session Have a qualified electrician inspect the lock motor wiring and mechanism; replace the socket if needed ConnectorLockFailure
Plug locking failed The charger could not lock the plug ('… on the EV side' in the LS4 MINI manuals) Reinsert the plug, remove any obstruction, have the lock checked ConnectorLockFailure
Possible CP and PR wiring issue. Control pilot / proximity signal implausible, likely a wiring or cable fault ('CP and PP' in the LS4 MINI manuals) Try another cable; have a qualified electrician check the CP/PP wiring and grounding OtherError
UNAVAILABLE (unavailable) Charge point disabled; reported over OCPP with status Unavailable Re-enable it from the backend —

Codes received from our chargers, not documented by GARO

These codes were received from chargers supervised by Chargekeeper but do not appear in the
manufacturer's public documentation. The label is the one sent by the charger itself.

Charger light — LS4, LS4 Compact, LS4 MINI, LS4 43kW, LS4 MINI 43kW and GLB+

Same table in all the manuals of these models. Firm red has several possible causes: the controller message (table above) or the OCPP code received tells them apart.

Signal Meaning What to do OCPP code
Firm green Charger idle: available with no vehicle, vehicle connected but not requesting charge (state B), or vehicle ready but waiting for authorisation (state C, Free Charging off) Check the vehicle settings that can prevent charging; authorise with an RFID badge, the app or a remote start; if the charger should charge without authorisation, set Free Charging to ON in the charger configuration —
Blinking green (3 blinks) Cable detected in the socket but the vehicle is not yet detected Reconnect the cable on both ends; try another charging cable if available —
Blinking green (30-second blink) A remote start was received from the backend; the charger is waiting for the vehicle to be plugged in Connect the charging cable or check it is connected properly; check the vehicle inlet for obstruction or dirt —
Firm blue Vehicle connected and charging (state C), or charging paused by the vehicle (state B) None —
Blinking blue Charge point reserved for a specific user Cancel the reservation in the backend if it is not wanted —
Blinking yellow The presented RFID badge is being checked with the backend None; wait for the answer —
Firm red — RCCB tripped The residual current device (RCCB) inside the charger has tripped Reset the RCCB: on the side of the charger (LS4 MINI); inside it (LS4), by a qualified electrician; have a qualified electrician check the controller's 8-pole connector, grounding and phases; if it persists, contact the installer or GARO support with the charger's M-number GroundFailure
Firm red — DC residual current DC residual current detected during charging by the controller's sensor Unplug the cable from the charger until the light turns green, then reconnect; if the cable is left in place, charging retries automatically after 15 minutes GroundFailure
Firm red — DC fault monitoring The charge controller's DC fault monitoring may be defective Have a qualified electrician check the orange alarm LED on the charge controller: if firmly lit, the controller must be replaced; contact the installer or GARO support with the M-number —
Firm red — outlet MCB tripped The outlet's miniature circuit breaker (MCB) tripped: overload or short circuit Reset the MCB; check OperatorCurrentLimit in the charger configuration; have a qualified electrician inspect the internal wiring OverCurrentFailure
Firm red — lock released while charging The socket's motorised lock was released while charging (the cable could be removed) Have a qualified electrician inspect the lock motor wiring and mechanism; if no defect is found, replace the socket through the wholesaler (GLB+ FAQ) ConnectorLockFailure
Firm red — plug not locked The socket cannot lock the inserted plug Push the plug fully in (light force allowed); remove any object or seal from the socket and do not refit the seal; have the lock motor installation checked ConnectorLockFailure
Firm red — damaged cable Charging cable seen as damaged (control / proximity pilot problem) Try another cable; have a qualified electrician check the CP/PP pins and wires and the charger grounding OtherError
Firm red (3 seconds) The presented RFID badge was refused (unknown or not approved) Check the badge in the backend; have a certified technician check the charger's internal whitelist —
Blinking red Charge point deactivated (status Unavailable) Re-enable it remotely (ChangeAvailability Operative) —
Red flashing after start-up The charger cannot connect to the backend; a short red flash right after boot followed by blue flashing is normal Check the OCPP URL, ChargeBoxIdentity and network; call a certified technician —
No light (charger and meters off) Charger completely without power, energy meter included Reset the upstream breaker in the switchboard; switch the charger's main breaker back on —
No light (meters powered) Charger dark but energy meter powered: the control electronics have no 12 V supply or the controller is not running Switch the 10 A control breaker on; otherwise, call in a qualified electrician (12 V supply, earth-fault search, top PCB cable, controller Ready LED, PSU or controller replacement) —
Dim light only, no colour Only faint ambient light at the top and by the socket: the controller is not feeding the top indicator LED Have a qualified electrician check the controller's diagnostic LEDs and supply, then the connector to the top card; replace the controller if needed —

Internal controller LEDs — charger opened, qualified electrician only

Signal Meaning What to do
Orange 'alarm' LED on the charge controller, firm The charge controller reports an internal hardware fault Replace the charge controller
Charge controller Ready LED not blinking green Controller not operating although its 12 V supply is present Check 12 V at the controller's 4-pole connector (terminals 1-2); if present, replace the controller
Controller diagnostic LEDs all solid The controller (CCU) is faulty: its green, yellow and red diagnostic LEDs should flash in normal operation Replace the controller
12 V PSU 'DC OK' LED off The internal low-voltage power supply produces no output Check the AC input on L/N, disconnect the +/- outputs to test; replace the PSU if DC OK stays off

Other models: Entity Pro

The Entity Pro is a different platform (GARO Connect app). Its manual only gives the light states A to M: no numeric code, no OCPP mapping. A breaker trip can also be notified in the GARO Connect app if it is configured to do so.
