KEBA error codes

Updated on 28 October 2026

This page covers the KEBA KeContact P30 chargers found in the fleets supervised by Chargekeeper, and the LEDs of the KeContact P40 / P40 Pro. It explains how to read a KEBA code and gives, for each documented error, its meaning and what you can do.

Where to read the code: in Chargekeeper, charging station list, connector details, Information column (or the list of ongoing sessions, Information column). It shows "OCPP code - manufacturer code - information". See Manufacturer error codes.

How KEBA reports errors

What the station sends to the supervision. KEBA does not publish what its chargers put in the OCPP StatusNotification message. On KeContact P30 stations supervised by Chargekeeper, a single case has been seen: manufacturer code (vendorErrorCode) LockFailed, with OCPP code ConnectorLockFailure and the information "The plug could not be locked". It matches error AUTARK_LOCK_FAILED below. For other errors, use the OCPP code, the LEDs and the station log.

How a P30 code is built. KEBA sorts its errors into groups, numbered 1 to f (hexadecimal digits: a = 10, b = 11, c = 12, d = 13, e = 14, f = 15). Each group has an internal KEBA name, for example ERROR_FI for group 5.

  • In the station log (web interface: System > Logging on the x-series, logging page on the other series; copy to a USB stick on the x-series), the full code is written in hexadecimal. Its last digit is the group: 0x8075 belongs to group 5 (ERROR_FI). KEBA writes these codes 0x[xxx]N, where N is the group. The e-series has no log.
  • On the 4-segment LED bar, only the group is shown. Each red segment adds its value: S1 = 8, S2 = 4, S3 = 2, S4 = 1 (for example, S2 and S4 red = group 5).
  • The colours give the family: blue and red segments = "blue/red" errors (station faults, ERROR_* names); red and white segments = "red/white" errors (plug, cable, vehicle, temperature or DIP-switch setting, AUTARK_* names). Both families reuse the same group numbers.

KEBA only publishes the full code for a few errors of groups 1, 5 and 6; the others are known only by their group.

LEDs and display

KeContact P30

The "M!" messages concern the dot-matrix display of c- and x-series units fitted with a calibrated (MID) energy meter.

Signal Meaning What to do
LED bar flashing red Generic error state (details via the colour code or the log) Switch off the supply (RCD and circuit breaker), unplug the cable on both sides, switch the supply back on. Errors are acknowledged by unplugging the cable. If it persists, contact the KEBA service partner.
Display: "M! Error" MID-relevant error on the calibrated energy meter Per KEBA the station must be returned for repair (contact the installer).
Display: "M!" before a text An internal message was stored in memory during the charging session; cleared on restart Note it; it is reset when the station restarts.

KeContact P40 / P40 Pro — other models

Model not present in the fleets supervised by Chargekeeper. KEBA publishes no numeric error code for the P40: only the LEDs are documented.

Signal Meaning What to do
LED flashing orange (2 short flashes per 5 s) Error detected that the station is trying to clear by itself (e.g. temperature too high) No action needed; the state clears once the condition is gone.
LED flashing red (slow, with one beep) Error that needs an action by the operator, including a tripped residual-current device (RCD) Unplug and re-plug the charging plug. Restart the station by switching its upstream circuit breaker off and on. If the RCD tripped: check plug and cable for damage and retry; if it repeats, have the vehicle checked.
LED flashing red (fast) and red smart-charging symbol Serious / critical error of the station Switch off the station's supply at the upstream circuit breaker. Have the station checked by a qualified electrician.
No LED lit No power supply or defective station Check the upstream protective devices; otherwise have the station checked by a qualified electrician.
Smart-charging symbol orange Charging current limited because the connection to the higher-level control system (e.g. OCPP backend, energy manager) is lost Check the station's network connection and backend/energy-manager reachability.
