G2 Mobility chargers (Alto) and the TotalEnergies range (Basic, Style, Park, City) do not connect to the supervision directly: they go through a local box, the EV Controller (also called G2box). The EV Controller talks OCPP with Chargekeeper on behalf of every charge point on the site.

This article explains how to configure the EV Controller so that it connects to Chargekeeper. It is based on the EV Controller commissioning guide (version 1.5.2) provided by TotalEnergies.

1. Where the EV Controller is

The EV Controller can be installed:

  • in an EV Pack;
  • in a Totem;
  • in a Mastro box;
  • directly inside the charger, for the Park and City models.

It communicates with the charge points over Zigbee radio or over Ethernet cable, and with the supervision over the mobile network (SIM card) or the site network.

2. Before you start

  • A computer or tablet with Wi-Fi and an Ethernet port, and an RJ45 cable.
  • An active SIM card (if the EV Controller connects over the mobile network).
  • The EV Controller credentials (Wi-Fi and administration interface): provided by TotalEnergies or by the installer.
  • A Chargekeeper connection token in OCPP 1.6 JSON, and the WebSocket URL it generates: see Connect a charger.

3. Log in to the EV Controller interface

Over Wi-Fi (recommended)

  1. Join the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the EV Controller, named G2box-xxx or EVController-xxx.
  2. Open http://192.168.43.1:8880 in a browser.
  3. Log in with the administrator account.

Over Ethernet (if Wi-Fi does not work)

  1. Set the computer's network card to DHCP (automatic address), plug it into the EV Controller's RJ45 port and open http://192.168.140.1:8880.
  2. If the login page does not appear, give the computer the fixed address 192.168.133.210 and open http://192.168.133.95:8880.
  3. With a payment terminal on site, use the second method (fixed address) directly.

4. Set up the internet connection

  1. Watchdog: the EV Controller restarts 15 minutes after power-up if it has no internet. In the Watchdog tab, temporarily disable "Reboot device when no internet connection".
  2. SIM card: switch the EV Controller off at its breaker, insert the SIM card, then power it back on.
  3. APN: in the Network tab, click New APN and enter your SIM card settings, then Save and RESET RADIO. With a consumer SIM card, the APN is often already stored.
  4. Still in Network, check:
    • SIM card state = SIM card ready;
    • Signal strength above 10 (below that, coverage is too weak);
    • Data state = Connected;
    • IP address other than 0.0.0.0.
  5. In the System info tab, check that the time (System time) is correct.

5. Declare Chargekeeper as the supervision

  1. In the Ocpp central system tab, click Configure:
    • Protocol: OCPP 1.6 WebSocket;
    • Central system: paste the WebSocket URL of your Chargekeeper token.

Ocpp central system tab (values hidden)

  1. In the Local controller tab, click the gear icon, then Protocol version, and choose OCPP 1.6 SOAP. This is the protocol between the EV Controller and its charge points: it stays SOAP even when the supervision uses OCPP 1.6 WebSocket (and OCPP 1.5 SOAP for an OCPP 1.5 supervision).

Local controller tab: choose OCPP 1.6 SOAP

  1. In the Settings tab, click Reboot, then log in to the interface again.

6. Pair the charge points

Before pairing, the EV Controller must have the right time, be connected to the internet, and the watchdog must answer OK. Power on every charge point on the site.

  1. In the Charge points tab, the EV Controller shows how many charge points it detects. Allow about one minute per charge point.
  2. When all are detected, click ADD ALL.

Charge point detection

  1. Each charge point appears on a card. The identifier at the top is its ChargeBox ID (by default, its serial number): this is the identifier the charger will have in Chargekeeper. You can change it with the pencil to follow your naming convention.
  2. With the pencil, set the number of connectors of each charge point (2 for a charge point with a Type 2S socket and a domestic E/F socket), then click Save.

Detected charge points (identifiers hidden)

  1. The cards turn blue and the star at the end of the identifier disappears. Check the status of each charge point (Available, Charging, SuspendedEV, Faulted). If one is faulted, see G2 Mobility error codes.
  2. With the remote-control icon, make the lights of each charge point blink (Led Blink) to note which charger, serial number and breaker go together.

If no charge point is detected although they are powered, restart the EV Controller (breaker or Reboot button in the Settings tab). If some are missing, check the Ethernet cables between the EV Controller and the charge points.

7. Check the connection with Chargekeeper

In the Charge points tab, click the OCPP button:

  • Accepted: the charge point is recognised by Chargekeeper;
  • Rejected: the supervision answered but refuses this charge point: check the token (validity, expiry date) and the URL;
  • Failed: the supervision did not answer: check the internet connection and the URL.

OCPP status check (identifiers hidden)

In Chargekeeper, the charge points appear in the charging station list, under their ChargeBox ID, as soon as they first connect.

8. Finish

  1. In the Watchdog tab, enter the address to monitor (Server to check), re-enable "Reboot device when no internet connection", then click Check internet.
  2. Test a charge on every charge point with an authorised RFID badge.
  3. In Chargekeeper, attach the chargers to their site and set up access and pricing.
