Smappee error codes
This page covers the Smappee EV Base, EV Base Charger, EV Wall Business, fourth-generation EV Wall and Smappee DC charging stations. It explains the codes sent to the supervision, the codes shown by the EV Wall V4 and the LEDs.
Where to read the code: in Chargekeeper, charging station list, connector details, Information column (or the active sessions list, Information column). It shows "OCPP code - vendor code - information". See Manufacturer error codes.
How Smappee reports errors
Smappee charging stations do not speak OCPP themselves: the OCPP connection goes through the Smappee cloud, which relays the station state to Chargekeeper.
Faults arrive in the vendor code (vendorErrorCode), as SMP_AC_xxxx for AC stations and SMP_DC_xxxx for DC stations, for example SMP_AC_0100.
On the EV Base and EV Wall Business, the station has no display: every fault shows as the same steady red LED. The vendor code is therefore the only place where the cause can be read.
Smappee's documentation does not say which OCPP error code comes with each SMP_ code. The "OCPP code" column gives the one received from stations supervised by Chargekeeper, when it has been recorded.

Other models: EV Wall V4 — codes shown on the display
These codes are shown on the display of the fourth-generation EV Wall (EVW4-332-…). The documentation does not say whether they are also sent over OCPP, nor which SMP_AC_ code they match.

LEDs and display
Station LED
On the EV Base, each charging point has its own LED and can show a different state. Faults are not differentiated: they all show as steady red. The EV Wall V4, EV One V4 and EV Dual show their status as text on a display.
| Signal | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Steady red | Charging point unavailable: fault, station disabled or not activated yet | Check in the app or the Smappee Dashboard whether the station is disabled, and re-enable it; read the vendor code (SMP_AC_xxxx) to find the cause; on the EV Base, check that both sides are powered (circuit breakers and RCD on); contact the installer or Smappee support if the LED stays red |
| Flashing red | RFID badge refused during authorisation | Check the badge authorisation in the supervision; the driver should contact their card supplier |
| Steady white | Charging point available | No action: the driver can plug in |
| Steady blue | Vehicle plugged in, session not yet authorised | Present the RFID badge, scan the QR code or use the Pay Station; if no authorisation is required, the LED should turn green within about 3 seconds: if it stays blue, check the station configuration |
| Flashing blue | RFID badge authorisation in progress | Wait up to about 15 seconds: the LED turns red (refused or not started) or green (started) |
| Pulsing green | Vehicle charging | No action |
| Flashing green | Session waiting or paused by Smappee (overload protection, smart charging) | No action, information only; if frequent, check the grid maximum current setting and the site measurements |
| Steady green | The station allows current but the vehicle is not drawing it: charge complete, stopped by the vehicle or session paused | Check the session status in the app or the Smappee Dashboard (paused or charging ended); if charging ended while the battery is not full, check the vehicle's charge settings or errors |
| Steady or pulsing green alternating, with clicking | The session keeps starting and stopping | Have the installer check and reset the internal RCD, and call them back if it trips again; have a qualified electrician check the wiring, the phase-neutral and neutral-earth voltages and the earth resistance |
| Off | The station has no power | Check the station's circuit breaker; have the installer check the internal RCD, and call them back if it trips again |
Smappee Connect LED
The Smappee Connect is the internet gateway mounted inside the station; its LED is only visible with the station open (installer). Because OCPP goes through the Smappee cloud, a Connect without internet also makes the station offline for the supervision.
| Signal | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Flashing red | The Connect has no internet access: the station is offline for the cloud and for the supervision | Check the network cable, the switch port and internet access; check the firewall rules; contact Smappee support if the problem persists |
| Steady green | The Connect is on the local network but has not reached the Smappee servers yet | Wait up to 2 minutes; then check the firewall and contact support |
| Steady blue | The Connect is booting | If it lasts longer than about 30 seconds, contact support |
| Flashing blue | The Connect is in install mode, waiting to be connected to the network (with Ethernet: no cable detected or Ethernet mode not enabled) | Complete the activation in the Smappee app; for Ethernet, enable Ethernet mode in the app and check the cable |
| Breathing green | The Connect is working normally | No action |
Smappee 4G Connect LED
On the 4G Connect, the LED shows 4G reception, not the cloud status: red means a weak or missing 4G signal.
| Signal | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Flashing red | No 4G reception or no internet access | Check the SIM card status and 4G coverage; move the 4G Connect or switch to a wired connection; contact support if the problem persists |
| Breathing red | Poor 4G reception at the installation position | Move the 4G Connect to a better spot or use another connection method |
| Breathing yellow | Average 4G reception; some functions may be slow | Consider moving the 4G Connect |
| Flashing cyan | The 4G Connect is searching for a network | Wait; if it persists, check the SIM card status and coverage |
